Club Activities

PNC Summer Picnic

A picnic for PNC members only will be held on Wednesday July 22 at the Parksville Community Park in a green space across from the baseball diamond (where the summer concerts on Friday and Saturday are normally held). The picnic starts at 11:30 p.m. and goes to 2:00 p.m. We’re encouraging members to support local restaurants by bringing take out food. Due to Covid restrictions we can only accommodate up to 50 people so reservations are required by emailing Special Events Director Tom Kinred at Tom.Kinred@edwardjones.com by July 20. Bring your chairs and refreshments and enjoy the company of your fellow Newcomers while observing physical distancing rules (six feet apart).

September Monthly Meeting and AGM Sept. 2 at 1:30 pm

This meeting will be held at the Parksville Community Centre in the Seaside Room which is large enough to accommodate 50 people respecting the six foot physical distancing rules. The Club’s by-laws require 20 per cent of members (40 people) to attend the AGM and vote in the 2020/21 board of directors. The speaker for the monthly meeting following the AGM is to be announced. Due to space limitations members will be required to RSVP Membership Director Betty Koch at dremer201@gmail.com.

Wine Appreciation Planning something for July (outside or via Zoom) The Wine Appreciation Newcomer Group meets once a month (the 3rd or 4th Wednesday) at a member’s home to sample a measured 1.4 ounce taste of various wines. The host often selects a theme or region that the wines will be selected from. Guests bring a bottle of wine and an appetizer to share with each other and give a brief description about the wine they brought. In essence, this a great way to socialize and learn about wine at the same time! Participants are always reminded to plan ahead for a safe ride or walk home.

Please email Linda Watson at ljwats@telus.net if you are interested in joining this group. Also please email Linda if you have moved on to the “Alumni” and/or wish to be removed from the email invite list.

*Events at restaurants require you RSVP the activity coordinator.

Links to COVID-19 Resources

We were contacted by Services Canada advising of their program information online and that they have a phone number to call for those without Internet access or who need help accessing government programs and services. So we put together this page with a link to their information, as well as other Federal, Provincial and Municipal resource websites.

On behalf of the PNC Board, we wish you well and look forward to seeing you again in hopefully the not-so-distant future. Meanwhile if you have questions or suggestions for the Parksville Newcomers Club, don’t hesitate to contact me at president.pnc@gmail.com.

Community Volunteer Opportunities

Note: this page has not been updated during the COVID-19 situation. With a stay-at-home plea from public health officials, groups that ordinarily look for volunteers are not.) So in future, if you’re looking for a volunteer opportunity, this would be the page to check out our Community Volunteers page.  If you know of a community organization that is looking for volunteers have them send their info to our webmaster at webmaster1.pnc@gmail.com.

A picture’s worth 1000 words! We need your help to add more pictures to our website. Please share photos that are either from

  • Newcomers’ activity groups, or
  • your own experiences and discoveries, as you get to know Parksville and the surrounding areas.

In both cases, you’re helping fellow Newcomers learn about the Parksville Newcomers club and where we all now call home.

We’ll include a photo credit to you and the short description you provide.

Send your photos and description to webmaster1.pnc@gmail.com.

Thank you. We’re looking forward to seeing and sharing your photos!
