October Monthly Meeting Monday Oct. 5 at 2:00 pm

The October monthly meeting will be held on Monday October 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Parksville Community Centre in the Seaside Room which is large enough to accommodate 50 people respecting the six foot COVID physical distancing rules. The Club’s by-laws require a minimum of 20 per cent of members (40 people) for attend the AGM.  

Members also have the option of attending via Zoom. Details will be in the upcoming e-newsletter.

Annual Membership Fee Renewals

Membership fees ($15 per person) are due now and can be purchased online through the PNC Online Store using PayPal, VISA or MasterCard. Those attending the October Monthly Meeting can bring cheques made out to Parksville Newcomers Club and receipts will be emailed after the meeting. Members can also mail cheques to the Membership Director Betty Koch. Contact her at dremer201@gmail.com for her mailing address. 

Members who are “graduating” to alumni

If you joined PNC prior to Sept. 1st, 2017 you are no longer eligible to be a newcomer.  However you can join the Parksville Newcomer Club Alumni.  To find out how please email that club’s newsletter editor Sheila Coulbourn at grandma.sheila@yahoo.com.

Special Event – Qualicum Beach Historic Walking Tour

Potential second date Thursday October 1

$10 per person

Bev Brendon will lead two groups of 6*, one at 10:00 and one at 2:00 p.m. on her “Town Tour,” a walk around the village, which brings to life many of the town’s pioneers and describes numerous heritage buildings and early merchants and their premises. Takes around 90 minutes.

We will meet at The Old Schoolhouse Arts Center located at 122 Fern Road West – just across the street from the Qualicum Foods store.

Participants are asked to pay cash on the day of the event and RSVP to Special Events Director Karen Mayner at karlym09@gmail.com by September 23rd indicating your tour time preference – morning or afternoon. Depending on the response additional tours may be added. 

* Small groups means it’s important to RSVP, and honour your reservation, so that an adequate number of groups/times can be arranged.

PNC Activities at a Glance

Book Club – Ordinarily the third Tuesday of the month. There’s room for more to join. And in the event that the number of members exceeds 10, then the “overflow” will start their own book club, under the “tutelage” of the first group! Meetings in the spring have been via Zoom, the June meeting was at a member’s home (with physical distancing). Currently seeking a new co-ordinator. 

Bowling Group –  Not currently meeting. To be re-assessed. Ordinarily a drop-in event the 1st and 3rd Tues. at 2:00 at Sunset Lanes.   Contact coordinator Pat Purves at pprvs10@gmail.com to add your name to the email list. Cost $11 for two games and bowling shoes. 

Bridge Mixed – Wednesdays  1:00 pm. The bridge group is playing online – using BridgeBase.com plus Houseparty to communicate. This provides them with an opportunity to play bridge plus socialize.  Contact Ann Staples annstaples04@gmail.com for more info

Camping – Various camping events are scheduled for the summer. Contact co-ordinator Ken Ginther gintherk@shaw.ca for info on dates and locations.

Coffee Chatters – Not currently meeting. Ordinarily Wednesdays 10:00 am -11:30 am, Serious Coffee, #9 – 1209 East Island Highway

Dine Out – Not currently meeting. Ordinarily the third Saturday of the month.  6:00pm  Currently seeking a new co-ordinator.

Ladies Golf – Wednesdays at 10:00 am at the Brigadoon Golf Club in Parksville. This scenic course is a 9-hole par 3-4. To add your name to this group list contact Coordinator Linda Burgess at lgburgess@shaw.ca

Ladies Lunch   Not currently meeting but to be added to the email list for future events contact Pat Cooke at cooke802@telus.net.

Men’s Golf – Mondays. Must contact co-ordinator Henry Salomon-de-friedberg hsdef@icloud.com to get on his list and he makes up the foursomes and books tee-times at different courses.

Singles Out – Members create opportunities to get together throughout the month and email the member list. They also have contacted each other to meet for 2 or 3 to walk together.  Currently there is a 10 day scavenger hunt available to Singles Out members (Aug 16-26). With an event wrap up on a local patio on the last day. To be added to the group’s email list, contact Betty Koch at dremer201@gmail.com 

Walking Group – Tuesdays at 9:30am and Saturdays at 10:00am. (arrive 10 minutes beforehand as the group leaves right at the start time) Up and going with physical distancing (no carpooling, 2 meter distance, carry hand sanitizer) – participants gather in the Wembly Mall parking lot near the arena on Tuesdays.
